Earth Day: Eco Friendly Products

18th April 2022

Glass Water Bottles: Our house is a non-stop revolving door with my five children, so I have made the conscious choice to make our home free of plastic water bottles. I ordered dozens of refillable and reusable 16 oz. clear, tall glass bottles with caps. They are stocked in our fridge daily, wonderful to drink out of, easy to chuck in the dishwasher and my kids love them. Set of 6, $21.50 at Amazon.com

Lomi: No more smelly, leaky garbage or throwing food scraps away to rot in a landfill. Lomi makes garage optional, fill your compost machine with all of your leftover food scraps and coffee grounds (even the cardboard box your Lomi comes in.) Just push the button and Lomi works its magic to breakdown all your waste. With Lomi, you'll be able to turn your rubbish into nutrient rich dirt. The dirt Lomi produces can go into your indoor plants, your garden, or your green recycling bin (depending on the mode you select), $499.00 at Pela.com

Lithium Batteries: Lithium batteries are used to power everything from electronics, toys, small appliances, laptops, phones and cars, but did you know the toll they take on our planet? Nature.com predicts the market for lithium-ion batteries is projected to grow from $30 billion in 2017 to 100 billion in 2025. The environmental side effects of mining lithium, according to Laura Grace Simplkins, are water loss, ground destabilization, biodiversity loss, increased salinity of rivers, contaminated soil and toxic waste. Demand is on the rise and processing these raw materials requires large quantities of energy and water. Which is why it's so important to properly dispose of and recycle your lithium batteries.

Never not put lithium batteries in the trash or recycling bins. Instead take your used batteries to companies like Best Buy or Home Depot who have programs set up, or head to call2recycle.org to find the closest recycling center near you; or ditch your disposable batteries and look into alternatives like rechargeable lithium batteries from companies like, Pale Blue or Eneloop
