Marie-Chantal's Christmas Traditions

17th December 2023

Christmas and the month of December are my very favorite time of the year. This year we will be spending the holidays in England, cozy in the country – I am so looking forward to all being together. However, December in London is magical – from the beautiful ice rink at Somerset House to fun filled nights out at Winter Wonderland, and 'The Snowman' performance at the Peacock Theatre (a class for little kids) to a botanical world filled with seasonal cheer at Kew Gardens. As with any city, it’s also the festive lights which makes it so special, but I have to say that London does it best with all their festive decorations.

Now that my children are older, we take pleasure in dining out at some of our favorite London restaurants like Dinings, Mount Street, or Nico's when we're all together. This year, we're especially eager to explore the holiday decorations at Ozwald's and Chiltern Firehouse.

The holiday season, for me, is a cherished time to be snug at home surrounded by family. Festivities kick off the day after Thanksgiving, marking the official start for Christmas music in our home (you can find my Spotify Christmas playlist by clicking here). The warm scent of my winter-themed Joy Candle fills our house, and decorations and Christmas cheer follow suit. The kitchen is adorned with Advent calendars, jars filled with peppermint sticks and gingerbread snaps, and our annual gingerbread house from Solvang Bakery. Rediscovering my favorite decorations and ornaments collected over the years is a joy, and the tradition of decorating the Christmas tree as a family remains a much-anticipated event. The grand Christmas tree, adorned with large pinecones and fairy lights, takes its place in the first week of December, and as the family gathers, we complete the decorations – a delightful celebration of family and Christmas.

I love to be reunited with all my favourite decorations and ornaments – I’ve been collecting a few over the years and as a family, the annual tradition of dressing the tree is one that everyone still looks forward to. I’ll start off with a big Christmas tree decorated with large pinecones and fairy lights. Our tree always goes up in the first week of December – and slowly as the family gets together, we finish the decorations – it is a lovely way to celebrate family and Christmas. I also love wreaths with sprigs of pine, more pinecones, and cinnamon sticks, as well as winterberries, oranges, and holly. There’s nothing better than that smell of Christmas.

Christmas day is a time to be cozy at home. This year we will all be dressed in my new Luxe Jersey Pyjamas in white paired with the my super soft Angel Wing Fleece Robe – As I like to say, life is better cozy, especially on Christmas morning or while curled up on the couch watching my favorite Christmas films, such as "Love Actually," "Bridget Jones's Diary," or "The Holiday."

Gift-giving is another aspect of the season that brings me joy. I take pleasure in selecting gifts for friends and the little ones in our family. Some of my favorite pieces this year include our our Holiday prints, Christmas Dogs and Winter Sport, which are ideal for kids to wake up in on Christmas morning. You can never go wrong with a pair of our cozy pyjamas and Angel Wing Fleece Robes. And, of course, our signature Angel Wing Sleepsuits in festive colors like floral berry and navy velour.
